NITE MAVERICKS - MISSION MEMORY - BEN & OLIVER
Taking on two of the world’s most unforgiving ultra marathons.
Still studying but determined not to settle for the ordinary, Ben Watkins and Oliver Smee have taken on two of the world's toughest water born ultra marathons to raise funds for their two chosen charities Race Against Dementia and Sue Ryder in recognition of their grandparents and families who have battled with Dementia and Cancer.
The two challenges they will be taking on are the 24hr Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race which is 125 miles long with 77 portages along the River Thames and has to be completed in under 24hrs, which Ben and Oliver will use as part of their training for the YUKON 1000 where in July they will head to British Columbia to face ten gruelling days of paddling the infamous Yukon River for up to 18 hours per day in isolated wilderness for 1,125 miles. The YUKON 1000 is a truly epic and potentially dangerous race which is both physically and mentally challenging and we are proud to claim that Ben and Oliver are the youngest crew ever to attempt both of these challenges.
When we met to discuss their challenges, it was obvious that these two young men were far older than their years suggest.
They are a strong team with a determined outlook and a dedication to their craft and their cause. Both are highly driven individuals who understand that it will require every ounce of discipline, determination and dedication they can muster to complete both of these challenges.
These guys embody what it means to be a Maverick, living life each day, pushing forward for themselves and others, not even contemplating failure.
NITE are looking forward to supporting Mission Memory on their epic challenges.
